Biker killed in road mishap

MUMBAI: A 23-year-old student was killed and his friend injured after a truck collided with their bike in Lower Parel on Sunday. The victims have been identified as Hiren Patel and Amit Kumar. “Patel was on his Bajaj Pulsar and Kumar was riding pillion,” said senior inspector Vasant Tajne of the N M Joshi Marg police station.

The victims were residents of the Fort locality. Tajne said the accident took place at around 8.40 pm at Senapati Bapat Marg in Lower Parel. The bikers were headed from Elphinstone towards Lower Parel when the truck hit the bike from the rear.

“Patel lost control and both fell. The truck then ran over Patel,” said an officer. “While Patel succumbed to his injuries in the hospital, Kumar is recuperating at the hospital,” said Tajne. The police arrested truck driver Baliram Tika (50) for rash and negligent driving, but he was granted bail by the Bhoiwada court.
