Can transfer taxi permit, but must get it registered

The state transport department, while allowing transfer of permits of taxi and autorickshaws, has made it compulsory for the transfer to be registered with the Regional Transport Offices to prevent any misuse of the vehicle in view of the recent terror attacks, according to a department official.
The move is aimed at preventing any illegal transfer of permits. Permits-holders like widows, minors, orphans or others, in whose name permits of their dead kin were transferred, can sell the permits if they wish to. Often, it has been seen that they are transferred/ sold through illegal means and such transfers are not registered with RTOs, said the official.
“Transfer of permits has to take place. On the one hand, there are active permits lying unused and on the other, there are people wanting to buy permits as no fresh permits are being issued. Terrorists may use any method to carry out attacks and transport-related documents are easy to get. In order to control such activities, we have made it mandatory to bring such transfers to our notice,” said a transport official.
