MUMBAI: A Member of Legislative Council (MLC) from Nashik was detained at Mumbai airport on Friday afternoon for carrying a revolver in his baggage.
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Vilasrao Pawar failed to produce requisite licence documents and was subsequently handed over to the police by airport officials. Pawar was on his way to Nashik.
The incident took place around 4. 15 pm, when Pawar arrived to board Kingfisher flight, IT 4193, which was scheduled to take off 20 minutes later. While scanning his check-in luggage, Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF) officials spotted a revolver. The scanner, which is sensitive to arms and ammunition contained in bags, showed a drawing of a revolver. We separated the bag from others and called the passenger, who was already on his way to board the flight, a senior security official said. He was immediately off-loaded by the airline and the flight took-off on time, he added.
