Fudged cancer report: Hospital plans to change protocol

MUMBAI: The Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH) in Parel on Thursday wrote to the Bhoiwada police station about a fudged diagnostic report prepared by a Kalyan laboratory for a cancer patient.
“We have sent the letter to the police,’’ said Tata Memorial Hospital director R Badwe. On Thursday, TOI reported about Nerul resident Devaki Poojary’s medical reports containing a “doctored’’ paper.
Cancerous blocks removed from Poojary, 58, were sent for testing to TMH by a Kalyan-based laboratory, but the report handed over to the Poojary family (by the Kalyan lab) was an amalgamation of reports of two other patients.
TMH also plans to raise the issue with the Maharashtra Medical Council, which is a watchdog body of the medical fraternity. “The lab had prepared a report on our letterhead. It misused our name using computer gimmickry,’’ said Dr Badwe.
