MLAs feel the pinch of inflation at last in Vidhan Bhavan canteen

Mumbai: Maharashtra’s legislators finally learnt how their constituents have been feeling about rising prices. They got a rude shock when they went to the Vidhan Bhavan canteen on the opening day of the budget session. The rates on the menu and the ‘poor’ service enraged them so much that some have decided to raise the issue in the assembly on Friday.

The legislators were taken aback to see that the rates in the air-conditioned canteen on the ground floor had almost doubled. What’s more, some had to wait more than half an hour to be served.
Anil Bawankar, Congress MLA from Tumsar in Bhandara district, was the first to protest. MLC Sayyed Pasha Patel of the BJP said he felt “as if I was eating at a five-star hotel. But the service and quality of food were poor.”
The Vidhan Bhavan secretariat has appointed a private firm, Doctors Hospitality Private Limited, from the ex-servicemen’s quota to run the canteen.
