Robbers caught with ornaments, cash in nakabandi in Mumbai

Mumbai: Two robbers were arrested while decamping with cash and gold ornaments collectively valued over Rs3 lakh during nakabandi in suburban Kurla, police said today.The accused identified as Amitkumar Vishwakarma (22) and Manish Chouhan (20) have been caught with gold ornaments worth Rs2.65 lakh and Rs41,500 in cash robbed from a doctor near Kurla railway station on Thursday, they added.
According to police, Sandeep Duphare was standing near the railway station with his in-laws luggage when the duo had hit on his hand with a bamboo and escaped with the bag containing cash and ornaments.The duo hired a taxi and while they were heading towards their destination, Kurla policemen, who were on nakanabandi duty, stopped their taxi and checked their bag.When enquired, the duo gave evasive answers following which they were taken to Kurla police station.Minutes after they were taken to police station, Sandeep came to lodge a complaint, police said, adding that he was then shown his bag and the valuables were handed over to him.
The accused were remanded to police custody till March 22 when produced before a court, police said adding that further probe was on.
