Shop next to a Mumbai police station burgled

Mumbai: A jewellery shop in Khar, which shares its wall with a police chowki, was looted to the tune of Rs25 lakh by an unidentified person in the wee hours of Friday. The burglar broke open the backdoor of the jewellery store and decamped with ornaments worth more than Rs25 lakh.

According to the police, the closed circuit television (CCTV) set installed in the shop has captured videos of the burglar. “Based on the video footage, we are trying to identify the burglar and will apprehend him soon,” a police officer from Khar police station said.
Interestingly, the shop — Ambika Jewellers — is located adjacent to a police chowki and policemen were present there when the shop was looted at around 1.30am on Friday.
The shop-owner, Narendra Parmar, 30, said that he realised his shop had been broken into when he opened the shutters on Saturday. “When I entered my shop, I saw it had been completely ransacked and things were lying around scattered,” Parmar said.
“I immediately rushed to the police chowki next door, but the policemen had no idea about the robbery,” added Parmar.
