MUMBAI: The state police is considering an online alternative for submission of application forms for police constable posts from next year, following the recent stampede at a police recruitment drive.
“We are considering a plan to make the form submission process online,” additional DGP (training and special units) A K Sharma said.
On March 3, over 30,000 aspirants had converged from various parts of the state at the Kalina police hostel, one of the centres. As the gate opened, the candidates rushed and broke the queue to submit the forms in an attempt to rush to other centres. In the melee, they jumped over barricades, resulting in a stampede in which one person was killed and 11 were injured. The candidates alleged that proper arrangements were not made at the centre.
If the online process is initiated, then one applicant can apply only at one centre.
