Rainwater harvest gains ground in Mumbai

Mumbai: With water fast becoming a luxury of sorts, many have put in their efforts to promote awareness about water conservation in the city.
In a bid to decrease water woes for citizens Rudolf D’Souza, trustee, Eureka Forbes Institute of Environment (EFIE), has been promoting awareness about conservation and management of natural water. So far, EFIE has helped 33 housing societies in harvesting rainwater and 12 of them are already reaping fruits of the process.

“In 2004, BMC came out with a regulation of making rainwater harvesting mandatory for all the new buildings with an area of 2,000 sq metres. Later, the older buildings too would follow this mandate,” said D’Souza.
