Faced with the prospect of losing out on two prestigious projects to the MMRDA, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) announced on Monday it will soon kick-start work on the western waterfront transport project.
MSRDC chairman and PWD (public undertakings) Minister Jaydatt Kshirsagar said the department is still hopeful of going ahead with the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, which reportedly is soon to be handed over to the MMRDA.
The MSRDC has announced that 19 prospective bidders have bought tender documents for the long-pending western coast project that will connect Nariman Point, Bandra, Juhu, Versova, Marve and Borivli via the coastal route, with passenger terminals at each of these places. “There will be both hovercraft and catamaran services,” said Kshirsagar, who on Monday met the Chief Minister to discuss the water transport and trans-harbour projects.
