A bank cashier on Friday saved a senior citizen from being robbed of her pension by paying keen attention to detail.
Vijaya Pokhane, head cashier at the Central Bank of  india, noticed that a man was pocketing money he offered to count for one of her regular customers. She raised the alarm and the thief was chased and nabbed. Police felicitated Pokhane for her watchfulness, police said.
Vimal Waman Dattar, 73, was collecting pension for three months at the Girgaum branch on Friday. She was about to leave with the Rs 25,000 she received from the cashier when a man offered to help her count the money. While handling the money, he frisked half of the cash and put fake notes in their place.

Pokhane said, “I saw the person putting Dattar’s money into his pocket. She is a regular customer at our bank and I could tell that this person was not her relative.” She alerted the security guards at her bank and rushed toward him herself. The man ran out of the bank.

However, Pokhane and the guards shouted out to bystanders for help. They stopped the robber and nabbed him.
