MUMBAI: Petrol or diesel prices in major cities of the state may shoot up by another rupee or two for a certain period if the state government has its way in its efforts to recover the huge cost being incurred on infrastructure projects.
The decision, being advocated by senior bureaucrats along with the state's prime infrastructure agencies, might also put an end to several toll posts across several highways in the state.
The state's prime infrastructure agency, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), which has been facing financial losses of more than Rs 2,400 crore, has pointed out to the government that a cess of 3% on diesel and 1% on petrol for the cities where it has implemented major projects such as Integrated Road Development Programme (IRDP) is not being recovered in accordance with old government resolutions.
