MUMBAI: The city crime branch on Monday claimed to have solved the break-in at actress Hema Malini’s weekend bungalow at Dindoshi, Goregaon, about a week ago with the arrest of five persons. The arrested are security guards who work in the same neighbourhood.
The crime branch unit 12 had received an information that the suspects would gather near Nancy Colony in Dahisar to strike at a new target. Accordingly, they laid a trap on Monday and arrested them. During interrogation, they confessed to have burgled Hema Malini’s bungalow.
The police also recovered part of the stolen booty—gold worth Rs 10.5 lakh and Rs 1 lakh in cash—from the five, identified as Vinod Sahi, Manoj Sahi, Veer Bahadur Batala, Tapendra Sahi and Ram Maan alias Bahadur. According to the officials, the accused are all related to each other and had equally distributed the booty among themselves. Veer Batala reportedly masterminded the crime and told the others that Hema Malini’s bungalow would be empty over the weekend.
