MMRDA, MSRDC vie for the same project

Mumbai: The city’s passenger water transport project is long overdue and questions over its commencement still remain unanswered. But, the project has become a bone of contention between two major infrastructure organisations working towards the development of the city.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) first locked hirns over the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link and now the city’s passenger water transport project. While the MMRDA is aggressively pushing for the project on the eastern coast of the city, the MSRDC has made it clear that they are the implementing agency for the project.
“We are in the process of finalising a financial model for the project. I am optimistic about the response. I hope that there will be enough market interest once we call for bids and a good bidder will eventually implement the project,” said MSRDC joint managing director Sonia Sethi. However, Sethi declined to comment about MMRDA’s plans of implementing the same project.
