MUMBAI: Renowned Marathi poet Govind Vinayak Karandikar, popularly known as Vinda, died in a Bandra hospital on Sunday. The 92-year-old Jnanpith laureate was ailing for a month. There will be no funeral as Karandikar wanted his body to be donated to a hospital.
Karandikar’s first collection of poems Svedganga (River of Sweat) came out in 1949, which was followed by other works, including Mridgandha and Dhrupad. His poems captured the angst of post-Independence era Indians.
