Plane suffers snag, diverted to city airport

MUMBAI: An emergency was declared at the airport in the wee hours of Thursday after an Istanbul-bound Turkish Airlines flight was diverted to the city.The flight, TK 061, suffered a sudden engine failure and had to be diverted to Mumbai. It had 289 passengers on board.
The flight landed in Mumbai at 4.36 am and occupied the runway for almost 20 minutes before it was towed away to a parking bay.

The aircraft, an Airbus A-320, is still parked at Mumbai airport. Of the 289, 140 passengers have been accommodated on other airlines and the rest have been lodged in a hotel.“The stranded passengers will be leaving on Turkish airlines’ Mumbai-Istanbul flight at 4.50 am on Friday,” an official said.
